The Gospel Shapes Everything

October 3, 2026Romans 1:16-17Ryan Smallwood

The gospel is not just a message to share - it’s the lens through which we see and live our lives. When we understand the power of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, it transforms our hearts, our decisions, and the way we interact with the world. This week, we’ll explore how the gospel shapes every part of our story and invites us to live in the light of God’s grace.

This Week's SLAP Guide

Study

  • Romans 1:16-17

  • Matthew 28:19-20

  • Mark 16:15

  • Luke 24:46-48

  • John 20:21

Listen

What is the Holy Spirit saying? Who do I need to share it with?

Apply

1. If someone who doesn’t follow Jesus asked you, “What difference has Jesus made in your life?” how would you answer? Take a few moments to think about your own story before sharing. What would you want that person to understand about how Jesus has changed you?

2. Read Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:46-48, and John 20:21. What common theme do you see in these passages? What do they tell us about Jesus’ desire for his followers to share the good news and make disciples?

3. Why do you think Christians sometimes view evangelism as something primarily for pastors, missionaries, or people who have the spiritual gift of evangelism? What might keep ordinary Christians from seeing themselves as part of Jesus’ mission?

4. Think about the places and people God has already placed in your life - your neighborhood, workplace, classroom, family, gym, team, or other regular environments. Who are some people you regularly interact with who may not follow Jesus? What kinds of struggles, questions, fears, or circumstances are they facing?

5. Choose one person who came to mind in the previous question. What might it look like to listen to that person’s story, pay attention to what they are experiencing, and look for a natural opportunity to point them toward Jesus rather than forcing a spiritual conversation?

Pray

Jesus, open our eyes to the people you have already placed around us. Give us ears to listen, wisdom to recognize gospel moments, courage to speak, and lives that demonstrate the good news we proclaim. Help us remember that wherever you have placed us, we are already on mission.
