Seeing the Gospel in Our Story

October 11, 2026Luke 15:11-32Ryan Smallwood

We can all find ourselves in the story of the Prodigal Son. This week, we’ll learn how to recognize God’s work in our own stories and see how the gospel provides hope, forgiveness, and redemption. By understanding our own journey through the lens of the gospel, we’re better prepared to share it with others.

This Week's SLAP Guide

  • Luke 15:11-32

Listen

What is the Holy Spirit saying? Who do I need to share it with?

Apply

  1. When you hear the word “testimony,” what comes to mind?

  2. Read Luke 15:11-17. The younger son took his inheritance and went to a “far country” searching for something he thought would satisfy him. How can you relate to the younger son? What is your story of life before Jesus?

  3. Read Luke 15:17-24 What does the father's response to his son teach us about God's grace and the gospel? How did you meet Jesus? Was there a particular moment, person, conversation, crisis, invitation, or season that played an important role?

  4. Read Luke 15:25-32 Jesus shows us that both brothers were lost but in different ways. The father reminds the older son that a changed life is worth celebrating. How has Jesus changed your life?

  5. Take a few minutes this week to write your testimony in three parts: What was your life like before Jesus? How did you meet Jesus? What has your life been like since meeting Jesus?

Pray

Father, thank You for finding us when we were lost and for welcoming us home through Jesus. Help us remember what You have done in our lives and give us the courage to share our stories with others who are still far from home. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
