Reliant Mission

Marc and Alyssa Helfrich

Marc and Alyssa serve together as missionaries to the University of North Texas, where there are over 38,000 students on campus who need to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. They desire that every student at North Texas would know the love of Jesus, and consequently devote themselves to a life of evangelism and discipleship.

Marc leads and coaches a home group of students while training up student leaders who are capable of doing the same. He also meets individually with guys to disciple them in their faith, and teaches classes at Hope Fellowship Church to equip believers for a life of effective ministry. His wife, Alyssa, serves with him to lead their home group, while meeting with the women of their group to disciple them in their faith.

Describe your relationship to Aldersgate Church

"Alyssa and I originally began our relationship with Aldersgate after being invited to visit by Alyssa’s uncle, Eloy Reyna. Alyssa has some other family in the congregation there, including Raquel Martinez. After visiting originally, we have greatly enjoyed building relationships with others in the church, such as Wanda Mankin. It has remained a constant encouragement to know that Roberta Patterson and the prayer team are faithfully covering us with prayer in helping us reach college students at the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University. It has been a while since we last visited, but we look forward to participating in next year’s Global Impact Celebration and see everyone again!"

Can you share with us a story of someone who has been changed by your ministry?

"I met Josh as a freshman last year, and invited him to join our small group on Thursday nights. He was interested in what the Bible said, but he also was wary of living in pursuit of Jesus. I spent much of the Fall 2018 semester building a deeper relationship with Josh, and then most of the Spring 2019 semester beginning to press into his faith questions and challenging him to step out in following Jesus. In our last small group of the year last year, Josh shared that he regretted not following the Lord and committed his life to the Lord! God continued to work in Josh’s life over the summer, and he is doing really well this semester. He committed to reading the whole Bible this year, and is currently partially through Exodus, and we are talking about what he’s reading, and how it reveals Christ. It has been a great joy to see God work in Josh’s life through our small group, and to see him taking steps to not only follow the Lord passionately, but also to serve our small group and the new class of freshmen!"

Please tell us how we can pray for your ministry?

"The biggest ministry prayer we currently have is for God’s leading for us as a church. As the culture on campus continues to change, we are reminded that we must constantly be adjusting our ministry to meet the needs of the current students. We have noticed that some of the programs we have done historically have shown signs of needing adjustments or replacements. God has been working a lot in this area, and we are excited to see the results of this ongoing process. Would you please pray for God’s provision and guidance as we seek to most effectively raise up disciple-makers for the Kingdom?"

"We are so grateful to Aldersgate and their dedication both to God, and to the sharing of the Gospel with those who aren’t already in relationship to Christ. In times of discouragement, God has already used you to encourage us and keep us excited about the work we get to do! We look forward to laboring alongside you!"
